What's New
Oracle Insurance Rules Workbench is a web-based application for managing Oracle Insurance Policy Administration rules. It features a cleaner layout, faster access, and simplified navigation, making it easier to work with various rule types.
The Rules Workbench retains the core functionality of the original desktop client - Oracle Insurance Rules Palette, but runs entirely in a browser.
Key Enhancements in Oracle Insurance Rules Workbench
Enhanced Mandatory Field Indicators and Inline Validation Messages in OIRW Screens
Prior to this release, mandatory fields in the OIRW screens were not clearly identified, and inline error messages were not consistently displayed when required fields were left blank during save or submit actions.
With this enhancement, mandatory fields in the OIRW screens are now indicated with a “Required” tag. If users leave mandatory fields blank while submitting or saving, inline error messages will be displayed for the missing fields. Error messages have also been updated across all screens to improve usability and data entry accuracy.
Revert Modification to Specific Version from version node history
To improve configuration and rules management in OIRW, versioned items now include enhanced version control and packaging options:
-
Revert to this Version: For any configuration/rule that has multiple versions available, a new “Revert to this Version” button is added, allowing you to quickly roll back to a selected prior version.
-
Config Package Selection: A new Config Package selection drop-down is introduced to let you choose the target configuration package when working with these items.
-
Add Config Package: A new Add Config Package button is provided to create and add a new configuration package.
Content search (XML Data) to easy access of rules
An enhanced Advanced Search feature is now available in the Insurance Rules Workbench, allowing users to search within XML configuration content of business rules. Users can filter results by Entity and Sub-Entity, use plain text, wildcard, or regex patterns, and directly view or navigate to rule configurations from search results. The feature includes a read-only XML viewer with copy support and configurable pagination, improving rule discovery and overall user experience.
Centralized XML Schema Validation for Rule Configurations
OIPA introduces a centralized XML Schema Validation (XSD-based) feature for rule configurations in OIRW, allowing users to validate rule XML files explicitly before saving or committing changes. The "Validate XML" button provides real-time, detailed feedback, enabling users to correct schema-related issues proactively.
Key Updates
-
On-Demand Validation: XML validation can be triggered manually using the "Validate XML" button.
-
Inline Feedback: A results drawer presents validation errors, warnings, and success confirmations, providing users with immediate, actionable feedback.
-
Separation of Validation: Validation is decoupled from Save or Check-in operations, allowing for flexible rule configuration workflows.
Product Copy
A new Product Copy utility is now available, enabling users to efficiently duplicate product configurations and associated business content across Company and Product hierarchy structures. Users can selectively copy product setup data, business rules, transactions, segments, and related configurations from an existing subsidiary company or product to another target structure, significantly reducing manual setup effort. The feature promotes faster product onboarding, improves configuration consistency, and supports reuse of existing business configurations, resulting in improved operational efficiency and reduced implementation time.
Plan Copy
A new Plan Copy functionality is now available, enabling users to quickly duplicate existing plans across different Company and Product hierarchy structures. Users can initiate the feature from the Tools menu in the main navigation, select the Source Environment, Target Environment, and choose the related rules and configurations to be copied. The functionality allows existing plans to be replicated under a different company or product setup, reducing manual configuration effort and supporting faster plan creation. The feature improves configuration reuse, ensures consistency across environments, and enhances overall operational efficiency.
Version Generator
A new Version Generator utility is now available under the Tools menu in the Rules Palette, enabling users to efficiently manage versions of data stored in the OIPA database. The feature supports creating new versions of existing data and restoring data to a previous version based on another database track. By simplifying version management and data restoration activities, the utility improves configuration control, supports easier rollback operations, and enhances overall maintenance and operational efficiency.
Detached Migration Functionality
A new Detached Migration utility is now available within the Oracle Insurance Rules Workbench, enabling users to securely deploy release packages across environments through a controlled and conflict-aware migration process. Accessible through the Tools menu after selecting an environment, the feature provides a dedicated migration interface for validating and deploying release packages and build directories.
The enhancement introduces automated conflict detection and validation capabilities that identify rule-level conflicts for insert, update, and delete actions before deployment. Users can review conflicting rules through categorised validation drawers containing detailed source and target GUID information, enabling informed deployment decisions and reducing migration risks.
In addition, the utility streamlines release deployment workflows by providing guided validation, deployment confirmation messaging, and improved operational visibility throughout the migration lifecycle. This enhancement improves deployment accuracy, strengthens auditability, minimises configuration inconsistencies between environments, and supports faster rollout of business rule changes within the Oracle Insurance Rules Workbench.
Deployment Rollback functionality
This release introduces rollback support for deployed release packages in Rules Workbench target environments. Rolled back packages are moved from the Deployed folder back to the Promoted folder. The system enforces rollback in reverse deployment order and displays validation messages for invalid rollback attempts.
Debugger Service - Redesign
The Debug Pane has been enhanced to provide a more comprehensive and user-friendly debugging experience for policy-level and client-level transactions. These updates improve transaction troubleshooting, execution traceability, environment configuration management, and debugging visibility across functions, loops, and valuation elements.
The enhanced debugger enables users to step through transaction execution in sequence, inspect math variable values in real time, and automatically traverse called functions and copybooks without requiring separate navigation.
